THE SMZ Q&A: KATHLEEN FINLEY

Print will never go out of style and Senior VP/Director of Print Production Kathleen Finley excels in her knowledge of press checks, color processes, specs and specialty pieces. And she does it with a style that’s all her own.

What was your first job? And what did you learn from it?

High school in the candy department at Marshal Fields & Company. NEVER open a box of fine chocolates solely for your own enjoyment. Leave it for the paying customers.

How do you stay inspired?

I pray daily.

What’s a brand you can’t live without and why?

La Crema Chardonnay. Because I can and because it is a good, moderately price wine.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received?

From my father: do a job you will be proud of.

What word or phrase do you most overuse?

Correct. It is affirmative and cannot be misunderstood or misconstrued.

What new skill or capability have you developed recently?

Learning Spanish. Que bueno!

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

I Want to Dance with Somebody by Ms. Houston. I love to dance.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Communicate with family who have passed on. Dark, right? But there are quite a few of them.

Who’s your favorite noisemaker?

Well, you probably aren’t interested in my two sisters who can whistle without using their fingers. Makes for a great football game. John Carty, a beautiful Irish fiddler.

Today, the world needs….

A good night’s sleep. After the past few months, it would be heaven to sleep through the night and wake feeling calmer, more centered and peaceful.
