New Hires! Becca Loose

Join us in saying hello to Becca Loose, SMZ’s new wordsmith.

What was your first job? And what did you learn from it?
Scooping ice cream. I quit because my friend was let go because she didn’t talk enough. I learned I care more about people than making money.

How do you stay inspired?
Music, nature, movement, people, random moments in life, trying new things, being told something won’t work, chocolate. “No method to the madness” is my method.

What’s a brand you can’t live without and why?
Apparently, I am not brand loyal, because I can’t think of one brand I couldn’t live without. But I have used the same Lubriderm skin lotion for as long as I can remember. I love it because it’s not stinky, is the perfect consistency and they keep their product line extremely simple. I just wish they made a face cream.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received?
1. Just be yourself. 2. Keep it simple. 3. You CAN put a motorcycle in a minivan.

What word or phrase do you most overuse?
It’s a tie between “Ok, cool.” Or “Awesome.”

What new skill or capability have you developed recently?
I’ve been helping to care for an aging parent with dietary restrictions. So, I’ve spent the past year or two learning how to make low sodium, heart-healthy meals … that don’t taste like low-sodium, heart-healthy meals. It’s been challenging, fun and an eye opener. PSA: Check out the sodium content on nutrition labels and menus – it’s mind-blowing how much salt is in food, even what is considered to be “healthy” options.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Anything that won’t make your ears bleed.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Never-ending-beyond-genius-can-cure-help-solve-fix-all brain power.
