Amy Klein, Director of Media Planning

For 14 years, Amy has planned and bought media in markets all across the country. She’s developed local plans for the Michigan Lottery, Big Boy Restaurants, the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, McDonald’s Michigan locations, and a Wendy’s co-op in southeast Michigan. She has also planned media for five Taubman Company properties.

Describe SMZ in terms of media.
We buy a huge amount of media, especially radio and television. We also have seasoned people in the department, so we have the seniority, the relationships and the experience to get the best for the client. Which means exposure, added-value and more bang for the buck.

The agency has a great reputation with the salespeople at the media outlets, too.
They bring us opportunities first, because they respect us and we treat them fairly. We also facilitate partnerships between clients and the media. So our clients aren’t just getting exposure, but personal service and new perspectives on their businesses.

How does SMZ compare to other agencies?
I’ve been with number of agencies over the years, and SMZ is the longest employer on my resume for a reason. We’re big enough that we have really strong clients but not so big that I don’t know everyone. Working for a family company that values its employees is rare. You see longevity in every department here, and that’s rare, too.
