Troy, Mich. (December 2, 2009) – To conclude their yearlong 80th anniversary celebration, employees at Troy-based Simons Michelson Zieve Advertising Inc. (SMZ) donated time, money and necessary items to put together care packages for men and women serving in the U.S. Military.
The packages were sent overseas to Iraq and delivered to Company F, 425 Infantry (Airborne) from the Michigan National Guard, based out of Selfridge.  Included in the packages were music download gift cards, international phone cards, shave gel, razors, hand sanitizer, puzzle books,  candy, DVDs and electronic and travel games.  In addition to providing items for the troops, toys, coloring books and stuffed animals for children living in Iraq were also sent over.  In total, SMZ sent more than 550 items to Michigan soldiers.

The care packages arrived at their destination in mid-November and the soldiers sent photos along with an email thanking SMZ employees.  “We were all out of several items and the packages arrived at the perfect time,” read the email.  “Thank you very much from all of us.”

“Our 80th anniversary celebration wouldn’t be as meaningful if it were not for the generosity and commitment of SMZ employees,” said Jim Michelson, SMZ chairman.  “So many men and women are making unimaginable sacrifices to protect us here at home; to be able to show our support in whatever way we can is rewarding for all of us at SMZ.”

Troy, Mich. (November 5, 2009) — This year, the day before Halloween brought young trick-or-treaters to the halls of SMZ Advertising.  Agency employees brought their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends to the annual SMZ trick-or-treat event.

Paper pumpkins, instead of porch lights, were posted outside the doors of the offices for the young and not so young trick-or-treaters to signify which “houses” to visit. SMZ staffers dressed in costume and decked out their offices in festive Halloween decorations. Donuts and cider were served and an arts and crafts room was set up for the kids to create their own Halloween decorations.

“We truly think of ourselves as an extended family,” said Jamie Michelson, president of SMZ Advertising, as he chomped on a Snickers bar. “We always encourage family events and were thrilled to have the kids at the agency for Halloween.”
